Right behind accidents and homicide — teen suicide occupies spot number three in teen death, ahead of disease, hunger, and other deprivation. The data reflects the developed world where most teens have the wherewithal to live happily. Suicide reflects their sense of meaningless. Where were they supposed to get a lesson about the meaning of life? In the adults around them. What happened? Adults reneged on this fundamental duty. Why? Because so many of us adults proceed day by day without a robust sense of meaning and good sense. We crave riches, fame, entertainment — vanity galore. We chase games, toys, sensual satisfaction, hype, fake, glamor. Some of us work hard, but the goal we are after does not justify dedication of our life to. So many of us define the meaning of life as helping others, perhaps our offsprings. Ok, then what is the meaning of their life? We, adults we have our life-inertia to carry us on despite vacuum of meaning, but our teen children often conclude that meaning is to be sought elsewhere, and they go there.
